Beach on way to Mattapoisett

A stop on our long walk to Mattapoisett. It is still winter.

Aaah! Cooling off in the water.

Stella loves to run!

Me, too!
Back to my favorite game, Creatures of the Deep.
What’s behind those waves?

My name is Little Rocky. My sister’s name is Serena.
We like to walk and meet people like you. See you outdoors soon!

Here is the shore route that Papa Bear has walked with us from Marion to Mattapoisett on Saturday for two weeks. First we go into some back roads, then we cut through some woods near a stream, and then we walk to Aucoot Cove. That’s where we discovered a small trail next to the boatyard which goes out to the cove. Papa Bear took our picture there. Then we walk along more roads until we get to the shore again, and we get to run without leashes. Then it’s more roads and more shore until we get to Ned’s Point Lighthouse. From there the last mile is easy streets. Total distance about 8 1/2 miles. Mama Bear comes in the car to pick us up.

Hey, what’s up Serena?

Yeah, I feel like a walk, too. Let’s ask Papa Bear.

Grab a stick, any kind of stick.

Sometimes the sidewalks are clear.

Sometimes there are mountains of snow! (same place)

Low tide down by the water.

There are shells that bubble and squirt!

Look, a sandbar where there’s normally water.

There are lots of shells and smelly seaweed at the bottom of this dock.

Hello Pilot. Nice to meet you. Pilot is a Great Dane.
Don’t worry, Serena. He’s a dog, not a horse!

What’s Serena looking at?

Just trees and water, I guess.

My coat is getting long, as you can see. And sometimes a little dusty.

But we have ways to wash off the dust. How about a visit to the park?

This is one of our favorite places. We’ve shown it to you before.

Ah yes, the Lookout. That’s ice on the pond.

Let’s check under the water. Give it a poke.

Creatures of the Deep, my favorite water game.

Now for a cool dip in icy water.

Did you find anything, Serena?

Nope! Nothing over there.

Yahoo! We run back to the car…

…and take a nice nap. All clean!

Papa Bear has been taking pictures of snow and berries and sidewalks.
He should cut out the arty stuff. He should take more pictures of me and Serena.

Some days, all the snow melts away.
But the sidewalks stay messy. Lots of sand and other junk.

Hello James! Glad you came for dinner.
Boy oh boy! Papa got a new camera and misread the dials. He got bad pictures and could not figure out the reason for a long time.
He also makes excuses about cold temperatures wearing out the batteries. Right! Any excuse will do.
The truth is, he doesn’t like to get his hands cold. He also complains about my picking up cigarette butts from the sidewalks. So what’s wrong with that?

Hey, it snowed!

After I run in the yard, the snow clumps on my fur.

Won’t you please take the snow clumps off me?

That’s good, Mama Bear. Thank you very much.

Okay, we’re ready to come in again.

Maybe they didn’t hear us. OKAY, we’re ready to come in.

Oh pretty please. Won’t you let us come in?

Exploring the cranberry bogs. Can we go in the water?

The days are getting shorter. We cast long shadows. The winds blows across the bogs.

We can smell ducks walking here.

We love it when Mama Bear and Papa Bear take us to Myles Standish Park

Woohoo, we’re headed for the “Lookout.”

Water dogs love to go wading.

Nice for cooling off.

We can also play, “Creatures of the deep.”

There’s no slowing down Serena.

We’re leaving the “Lookout.” I got up the hill first!

You can always find a stick to bring home.

Now the leaves are falling and the sticks are abundant.

While Papa Bear works, we work aslo.

We dig holes. Whatcha got?

When summer’s over, dogs can go on the beach.

Woohoo! Where’d they get all that water?

Yup, a dog’s gotta do what a dog’s gotta do! Get your rest while you can.
